Good morning everyone.  I'm wondering how many OPO's are using the SPS-1 solution offered by ORS?

Any feed back is greatly appreciated.

We are using it here in New England.  It is UW.  Barr Labs is still manufacturing UW for the time being but selling only to existing customers.  New customers are being directed to McKesson to purchase UW.  Essentially its a cost savings since the patent ran out on UW.

In NWOhio, we're using SPS-1, KPS-1, and also have some 5L & 1L bags of HTK.  Since they all look so similar, we've gone and put brightly colored stickers on the outerwraps to indicate "Pump" or "Flush" fluids.  No problems using the solutions, though.

Interesting articles recently published in AJT regarding HTK.  Are those of you using HTK considering switching back to Viaspan?

John

You mention that the patent has ran out on UW.  I am surprised to hear that.  Currently, we still use UW for all cadaveric donors, and HTK only for living related kidney donation.

You mention McKesson, do they also sell UW?  OR is that a different solution?  Would you have their contact?

thanks

Laszlo,

Barr Labs still makes UW.  Although they only sell to folks with an established account.  I think I have a contact person from McKesson.  If you need it let me know, and I can send it separately.

Currently the generic versions of UW are available from Organ Recovery Systems (Chicago, IL) and I heard soon from Waters (Rochester, MN).  I'm not sure about the patents outside of the US, nor the approval of these generic versions by your FDA (equivalent).
