| A rarely discussed topic is palliative care for pts listed for transplant. Also, the topic of code status is controversial. To read more about this, see my new paper: Bramstedt KA. Hoping for a miracle: supporting patients in transplantation and cardiac assist programs. Current Opinion in Supportive & Palliative Care 2008;2(4):252-255. If you would like a reprint, let me know. | This is an extremely pertinent topic. As a liver coordinator in Region 1, our wait list mortality rate is 20-25%. Often we have to shift our care focus from agressive care full of hope to compassionate end of life care for the patient as well as their supports. I often will reframe their care goal as "changing what you hope for" - and shifting the focus of hope to a meaningul, peaceful end. Thanks for raising this valuable issue.
