| Does anyone one know if any guidelines exist for "best practice" ratios for post- coordinator. I am looking for any written information to support improved quality outcomes.

| Great question! I once read in an AAACN journal (American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing) that the ratio is 250 outpatients to 1 nurse.

| I would be hesitant to use 250 patients per nurse rule. I think the more important questions to go along with the nurse/patient ratio is the complexity of the patient, staff assistance, and work model. I am a lung transplant coordinator and we have 50-60 patients per coordinator and we have more than enough work to fill our time. We also have limited secretarial support.

| It depends on the organ specific program model. We have programs that coordinator follows 50-60 recipients and others that support 100-150 recipients per coordinator.( not thoracic) This is determined by coordinator assistance such as coordinator assistants or secretarial support. Also, if the program follows patients for life vs returning to their referring pulmonologist.

| What a great question. To bad we don't have anything evidenced baced. I work with kidney and pac. transplants and probably have about 500-600 patients that we follow and the numbers just getting bigger each year. We follow the transplants forever...
