| I would be very interested in hearing about experiences in which the pt was in a first person registry, yet the family expressed opposition to donation. What are the keys to a positive outcome?

| In my experience the key is to explain that it is something their loved one really wanted and authorized. I also explain the process, timing, the fact there will not be a cost, or change in viewing/funeral arrangements. In my personal experience the family's I have dealt with just need time to understand the process, feel they would still be part of the process and wanted questions that were looming in their minds answered. We have gone forward with these donations with very positive outcomes. I have had family's tell me it still would not be their choice, but they are happy I took the time with them and that they went forward with their loved ones wishes.
