New York Organ Donor Network, the second largest organ procurement organizations (OPOs), is responsible for the recovery of organs and tissues for transplantation, and public and professional education efforts for a culturally and ethnically diverse population of 13 million people in the Greater New York metropolitan area. It serves nine transplant centers and more than 100 hospitals within its service area.
This key management figure serves as Administrator On Call and is responsible for the overall management of donors and the donation process including assigned staff. Supervises and trains transplant coordinators and donor evaluation coordinators in all of their duties and conducts on-site evaluation of direct reports. Organizes and conducts case reviews and other professional development opportunities and helps to develop and maintain policies and procedures. Manages professional interactions with hospital nursing and other personnel, including providing education on donation and donor management. May supervise and/or engage in the acquisition and placement of organs. Responsible for advancing public industry awareness of organ and tissue donation. Ability to be on call 24 hours and willing to work weekends and holidays as needed.
BSN/BS required with three to five years related experience and or training, including minimum two years as a transplant coordinator. Master’s degree a plus. CPTC with a minimum of three years critical care experience and two years experience in the field of organ and tissue donation/transplantation may be substituted. Position reports to director of clinical services.

We are seeking experienced Critical Care RNs to join our team in making a difference in the lives of others as a Transplant Coordinator. The ideal candidate will have at minimum of three years’ recent experience in a critical care setting, a willingness to learn and demonstrated multi-tasking abilities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a passion for organ, tissue and eye donation are essential.
The Transplant Coordinator is responsible to respond to referrals at area hospitals evaluate potential organ donors for medical suitability and offering the opportunity of donation to potential donor families in a compassionate and respectful manner. Allocate donated organs to transplant centers, in accordance with UNOS policies, and coordinate multi-organ recovery procedures. Work to promote awareness and education about organ and tissue donation to healthcare professionals and the general public through hospital development and community outreach. Coordinators must be able to work flexible hours & be on-call to respond to manage the clinical donation process.
