Transplant Nutrition Webinar: Nutrition-Focused Physical Exam and Interventions for the Complex Ped

Thursday, March 13, 2025
02:00 PM - 03:00 PM

Caring for complex transplant patients presents challenges due to feeding difficulties, persistent intolerance and progressive disease. Nutrition assessment is further complicated by organomegaly, edema and ascites. With the limitations of traditional anthropometrics, to accurately assess the nutritional status of these patients requires creativity and use of alternative tools such as MUAC, tricep skinfold, subscapular skinfold, handgrip strength, functional status and thorough micronutrient assessments. This population also often requires complex enteral and/or parenteral nutrition support regimens demanding that the dietitian have a thorough working understanding of these treatment entities. Treatment of nutrient deficiencies, need for pancreatic enzymes and complicated medication regimens are just a few of the elements to consider when providing nutrition care for this population. In this presentation, using published best practices and case studies, we will equip dietitians with advanced, creative tools for nutrition assessment and intervention for even the most challenging transplant patients.
