With a national push to increase the number of organs transplanted, OPO's and transplant centers alike are finding ways to achieve that goal. For the last year we have noticed a common request being made. That request was to transport a kidney on a perfusion pump to the accepting transplant center. What seemed like a far-reach in the beginning, has now become a very normal practice at our OPO. We were able to get our transportation options on board with both NORA and a local courier service, and hit the ground running.
