Benefits and Impact of Donor Care Units Across the Continuum

This webinar will explore the benefits and impact of a centralized Donor Care Unit for donation after cardiac death candidates, as well as a separate free-standing brain-dead donor care units.

Attendees will gain insight into how dedicated donor care environments can support more consistent donor management, enhance operational efficiency, strengthen collaboration between OPO and hospital teams, and provide a specialized approach to caring for donors and their families. The presentations will also examine how these models can improve recovery coordination and create opportunities to advance organ utilization and outcomes for donor families, transplant centers, and OPO teams.

Donor Care Units can create opportunities beyond day-to-day donor management, including advancing research and innovation. By providing a centralized and consistent environment, the DCU can support research partnerships, evaluation of new practices and technologies, and initiatives designed to advance the science of donation and transplantation.

Hope Weed serves as Executive Director of LifeLink of Georgia, leading operational and strategic efforts to advance organ donation and transplantation. With more than 17 years at LifeLink, she progressed through a variety of operational and leadership roles before being appointed Executive Director in July 2025. Hope holds degrees in Health Administration from Auburn University and Nursing from Georgia Baptist College of Nursing at Mercer University. Her clinical experience as a Level I Trauma ICU and flight nurse helped shape her commitment to organ donation and a career dedicated to saving and healing lives through transplantation.

Director of Advanced Practice Providers

Southwest Transplant Alliance

Jade Barnes is a board-certified Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and the Director of Advanced Practice Providers at Southwest Transplant Alliance. With clinical experience spanning trauma/surgical critical care and cardiothoracic/transplant critical care, she brings a strong foundation in complex patient management, donor care, and interdisciplinary collaboration. At Southwest Transplant Alliance, she provides leadership in advancing clinical practice and supporting high-quality donation outcomes.

Continuing Education: NATCO will award continuing education certificates to participants who attend this webinar. CE records are maintained by the NATCO Executive Office for a period of seven years. This program has been approved by the American Board for Transplant Certification for 1.0 Category 1 CEPTC.

Members may register at no cost. There is a fee of $35.00 for non-members.

We encourage your organization to register as a group. You may have an unlimited number of attendees per connection. Please designate one person as the group leader. Only the group leader registers. The group leader will be responsible for verifying the attendance of members of the group for the purpose of distributing CE credits.
